The ifo Institute for Economic Research study “Industrial Digital Economy – B2B Platforms” that was carried out for the Bundesverband der Deutschen Industrie e.V [Federation of German Industries] highlights the fact that a flourishing industrial B2B platform ecosystem is currently developing in Europe and Germany. Unlike the established B2C platforms, this segment is still in the early phase of development. However, the study ascribes great significance to digital B2B platforms in German industry – according to the survey, this applies in particular to mechanical engineering and the steel industry.
